Why Frouke is leaving a gift in her Will
Frouke grew up listening to stories of how her mother’s family had hidden Jewish children in their home during World War II.
My mother had a very strong social ethic and she was very caring. She passed on a sense of, “this is just what you do.”
As a former teacher and child sponsor of almost 40 years, Frouke said it made sense to leave a gift in her Will to Plan International Australia.
“My family will appreciate my money but there is enough to support my key areas of passion. They are certainly happy that I am doing it.”
Why Gerard is leaving a gift in his Will
Growing up in Korumburra in Victoria, I’ve always been surrounded by a need for equality. Through my experiences, my Catholic upbringing, my career as a teacher and my travels, I’ve seen firsthand the level of societal disparities and inequalities that persist. This engrained in me a strong desire to make a difference.
I joined Plan International in 1975, connecting immediately with their values of non-discrimination and universal support. Over the years, I’ve sponsored children in Indonesia and Sri Lanka, believing deeply in the power of education in fighting social injustices.
I wanted to leave an idea that goes beyond my lifetime. It isn’t just about making me feel good, but it’s about doing good. It is with this belief that I’ve left a gift in my Will to Plan International Australia, supporting girls’ education in South Sudan.

A Testimonial from Brian Tierney on behalf of Lady Jean Foley
“Education unlocks the potential of girls, enabling them to break free from the cycles of discrimination and poverty, and become leaders who positively impact their communities. Lady Jean Foley’s remarkable life is a testament to this.
In 1943, she began her academic journey, which led her to become a pioneering figure in computing in Australia and later serve as the Registrar of Sydney University. Despite early skepticism, she proved that determination and education could drive meaningful change in both technology and society.
I had the privilege of knowing Lady Jean for over 30 years, evolving from tax adviser to trusted friend. We often discussed the transformative work of Plan International Australia, which supports girls’ education and rights—issues that Lady Jean deeply valued, shaped by her own life experiences. Before her passing, she made me one of her Trustees, entrusting me with the responsibility to continue her legacy and support causes that help girls overcome discrimination and poverty.
Having supported Plan for nearly 20 years, I’ve seen firsthand the critical need for education in countries like Nepal, Kenya, and Uganda. Lady Jean’s estate has allowed us to direct resources towards initiatives that empower girls and challenge the cultural, social, and religious biases that hinder their progress. I’m certain she would be proud of the impact we’re making today.
I encourage you to follow Lady Jean’s compassionate example by considering a Gift in your Will to Plan International Australia. Your generosity will help empower girls to lead change, creating lasting impact for generations to come.”
Why Moira is leaving a gift in her Will
I made the move to Australia 15 years ago, now calling Melbourne home with my partner, Pete, and our dog, Snoop. Initially planning a two-year stay, I was captivated by the country’s beauty and the warmth of its people.
Reflecting on my fortunate life, I’ve been inspired to support Plan International and leave a gift in my Will. Growing up aware of global inequalities, I recognised my own luck in life and aimed to contribute to the work of charities addressing these issues.
Ten years ago, I included Plan International Australia in my Will, impressed by their understanding of poverty’s root causes and commitment to empowering girls. Now, as part of the Plan team, I witness first-hand the organisations dedication to making a lasting impact.
