Plan International Australia Ambassador Yasmin Poole wins prestigious global youth influencer award

Yasmin Poole

Australian youth activist and Plan International Australia Ambassador Yasmin Poole has received a Youth Influencer of the Year award from the US-based King Center, which honours the legacy of Martin Luther King.

In winning the award, Yasmin Poole follows in the footsteps of past King Award recipients including Lady Gaga and the three founders of Black Lives Matter – Patrisse Cullors, Alicia Garza, and Opal Tometi.

The youth award is an international award selected personally by Bernice King, daughter of Martin Luther King. I’m also listed under the title National Ambassador of Plan International Australia.

“It’s an indescribable feeling to win this award. I’m deeply honoured to be recognised in honour of Martin Luther King, a titan of our history and a permanent reminder of the power of hope,” said Yasmin Poole.

“I attribute much of this award to my work with Plan International Australia, which continues to fight for girls’ equality every day. I look forward to continuing my work pushing for gender justice and demonstrating that young women always have a place in our political conversations,” she said.

Plan International Australia CEO Susanne Legena congratulated Yasmin Poole on her remarkable achievement in winning the Youth Influencer of the Year award.

“Plan International Australia is proud to work with inspiring young women such as Yasmin Poole and we are delighted her work is now being recognised internationally.”

“Yasmin’s work with Plan International Australia and beyond proves once again that young women are such powerful agents of change, and when they raise their voice and the world starts to listen, amazing things happen.”

“There are so many Yasmins in the world that unfortunately never get to raise their voices because of poverty and discrimination – we will keep trying every day to ensure all young people can take their rightful place in creating the world we want to live in,” she said.
