Ways to support girls in crisis
Why Girls?
Girls and women around the world are facing unique challenges and inequality, during crises like COVID-19, this was most apparent.
We know from our experience responding to the Ebola outbreak in Western Africa, that in times of crisis girls face a much higher risk of being pulled from school permanently. And when girls were isolated at home, rates of sexual violence, teenage pregnancy, trafficking, child labour and child marriage increase dramatically.
But girls hold immense power and potential to create very real change.
When girls are educated and supported – their entire family and community benefits, including boys and men. By making sure girls aren’t left, we’re helping to create an equal world where girls can take their rightful place as equals.
You can support girls in crisis:
- $30 can help provide nutritious school meals so girls get to school and remain there, knowing that they will have the energy to continue learning
- $55 is enough to provide girls and women with a Dignity Kit, complete with the essentials they need to manage their periods during a crisis
- $100 can help make sure girls can continue their education, through our work supporting teachers and community leaders to distribute learning materials.
