The Opportunity
Plan International Australia is looking for a Program Development Manager – Climate to support us in developing partnerships and program models in climate adaptation, resilience and knowledge practices. This position will work with community partners, working in both rural and urban settings with a specific focus in Asia and the Pacific, and overall further our outreach to catalyse change in the gender equality and justice space from a climate perspective.

What is it really like?
An average day in the PIA Program Support, Partnerships and New Ventures (PSPNV) team is quite varied – no day will be quite the same, but throughout your time, we will see you performing these duties:
- Provide technical thought-leadership, technical support and collaboration in the area of climate change adaptation and resilience with a range of key stakeholders; including:
o Internal & external program partners
o PIA program areas
o Plan International Urban Hub (global function) - Explore and lead new ways of working, trialling new innovations (including digital) within projects and testing new program approaches that generate new impact, increased impact, scale and / or income for PIA
- Maintain and strengthen existing partnerships, as well as leading the development of finding new partnerships both within and outside of the international development sector
- Develop and maintain a strategic direction or roadmap for business development in the area of climate change resilience programming
- Identify funding opportunities, write technical proposals and contribute to grant acquisition of programs
- Represent PIA amongst donors, external partners and other relevant stakeholders
- Design or support design for new programs, in accordance with PIA Manual of Procedures & DFAT accreditation standards, including maintaining compliance in child safeguarding and other standards
- Devolve (wherever possible) decision-making related to project implementation to local country offices or partners and actively make efforts to support localisation in whatever form is deemed appropriate and relevant by partners
- Contribute to departmental strategic and program planning meetings, exercises and documentation.
Our office is in Southbank. We’re looking for someone who can undertake some of their work here, and some of their work at home.

Who are you?
We are looking for someone who is a specialist in the climate change space; someone with a knack for program design & implementation, and the ability to find and maintain long-term partnerships with a range of partners. You will have a deep understanding of what it means to work respectfully alongside local country partners on issues that will impact them most.
The core skills we are looking for are:
- Someone who has had approximately 8 years working in the international development sector, with strong climate adaptation and/or disaster resilience engagement, and at least 1 year field experience
- Someone with extensive specialist/technical knowledge of climate change – ideally someone with a post graduate qualification relevant to climate change, resilience and urban programs and/or equivalent technical experience
- Experience in capacity building, mentoring and delivering training
- Demonstrated communication (written and verbal) and negotiation skills, ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships across a wide range of stakeholders
- Well-developed assessment, program development, evaluation, project proposal and budget preparation skills
- Alignment with PIA’s values and commitment to social impact, intersectional feminist leadership, power-sharing and diversity and inclusion.

Hours, pay and start date
This is a full time, ongoing role with a competitive salary. We are looking for someone to begin the role immediately, however can be flexible on start time.
