Mutjung Ranger Development Coordinator

This role is for our Arnhem Land partner, Gong-Dal

Exciting new position working closely with Yolngu Traditional Owners and rangers on land management and cultural projects by growing the recently established Mutjung Ranger Group in the western Miyarrka area of North East Arnhem Land, Northern Territory.

The Position

This position offers excellent remuneration and benefits, including:

• Full time 2-year contract
• Salary: $85,000 – $95,000 p.a.

Based in the remote community of Gapuwiyak on the shores of Lake Evella, the successful applicant will be a highly motivated, practical, and passionate individual who is committed to working alongside Indigenous people and becoming a good role model and mentor to rangers.

Gong-Dal Aboriginal Corporation (GDAC) is a representative body for people on homelands in western Miyarrka Country located near Gapuwiyak. The GDAC vision is: Yolngu people living culturally strong, healthy, self-determined and economically independent lives in our Miyarrka Homelands and Gapuwiyak.

GDAC has established Mutjung Rangers so Traditional Owners in the western Miyarrka area can deliver their own land and sea country program using a ‘both-ways, ground-up’ approach which combines cultural knowledge and traditional land and sea management practices with scientific environmental expertise.
The Mutjung Ranger Development Coordinator will play a crucial role in advancing GDAC’s Strategic Plan through assisting western Miyarrka people to maximise their participation in land and sea management on their country.

The main objective of the Mutjung Ranger Development Coordinator is to support the growth of Mutjung Rangers, including the development and delivery of good planning processes, high-quality operations, community engagement, and training and mentoring of Yolngu rangers. This work will also support strategic land management (Healthy Country) planning and implementation.
