Plan is one of the oldest and largest children’s development organisations in the world. We operate in 51 developing countries where we implement community development projects dedicated to supporting children, and particularly girls, to realise their rights. We have national offices in 20 countries where we raise awareness and support and Plan International Australia is the Australian representative office of Plan International.

This is an opportunity for an experienced Climate Change Expert specialising in Disaster Risk and Resilience who wants to make a genuine difference in the international development sector. You will be joining Plan International Australia’s Disaster Risk and Resilience Team. As the successful candidate, you will be a committed champion for climate change with extensive experience in the area.

This role requires international travel.

Key accountabilities: 

  • Climate Change partnerships development, project design  and climate financing acquisition Emergency response and recovery programming and coordination  
  • Policy, strategy, and influence
  • Knowledge management and capacity building
  • Linkage and integration to relevant programs in DR&R and as needed in development programming   

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Post Graduate qualification in relevant area such as climate change, development, DR&R, or related field.
  • Quality experience working on climate change issues, with demonstrated experience in successfully accessing climate financing and in developing country context with a significant climate finance donor or fund.
  • Excellent understanding of and demonstrated experience in climate change and development issues, including climate financing.
  • Strong partnership skills and experience in external relations with donors and key stakeholders.
  • Strong training, capacity building, coaching and mentoring skills or knowledge of what good capacity building looks like
  • Experience in program design, monitoring and evaluation, project proposal & budget preparation skills, report writing and knowledge of participatory techniques.

  • Excellent team player and ability to link Climate change to DRR, Food Security/livelihoods/humanitarian/gender &inclusion
  • Demonstrated ability to manage workflows, balance competing priorities and work effectively in a small, diverse and busy team environment.
  • High level of communication skill required, both written and oral.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with external and internal stakeholders (cross functional teams across all levels of the organisation).
  • Demonstrated understanding of gender equality and women’s empowerment and a commitment to PIA’s and Plan International approach and values including ethnic diversity and cultural sensitivity.
  • Understanding of child rights and children’s participation.
  • Capacity to share responsibility and accountability.
  • Exposure to Australian DFAT and other institutional donors.
