Suresh Pokharel is managing the Disaster Risk Reduction program portfolio under the Disaster Risk & Resilience (DRR) team for Plan International Australia across three regions: Asia, Pacific and Region of East & Southern Africa (RESA). He is responsible for driving Disaster Risk Reduction strategy, implementing DRR projects on the ground, establishing relationships with key donors and maintaining portfolio growth. He also supports, and is involved directly when necessary, in Plan's Emergency and Humanitarian work. He was part of Plan’s emergency response in Philippines after Cyclone Haiyan, and in Nepal after the recent earthquake.
Suresh has a Master’s Degree in Development Studies and a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering. He has been working in the Development sector for over fifteen years with extensive experience in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Responses. Previously, among others, he has managed Emergency Response Program in IDP situations in Timor-Leste and been deployed from the Australian Red Cross as a Disaster Management Delegate in Solomon Islands.
