Deborah Elkington’s role is to oversee, guide and monitor the implementation of the Gender Equality Policy and broader work on inclusion for Plan International Australia. A key focus of her role is to provide strategic and technical advice to promote gender equality, inclusion and girls’ rights in Plan International Australia’s international programs and humanitarian responses. This includes managing or supporting gender transformative programs, practice and learning for Plan International Australia and partners. Deborah is also an active member of the Plan International Gender Equality Reference Group which oversees and supports the implementation and review of Plan’s Policy on Gender Equality globally.

Deborah has academic qualifications in Political Science and Sociology. She has a professional background of more than 25 years working in government, private and not-for-profit sectors. Her work has encompassed policy development and implementation; monitoring and evaluation; program development and management, with a strong focus on gender equality, social justice and inclusion; and youth development and empowerment approaches. Deborah has fifteen years’ experience in International Development working for both Oxfam Australia and Plan International Australia.
