Intrepid Travel’s enduring commitment to children
Intrepid's commitment to breaking the poverty cycle is
enduring and heartfelt. it started with the sponsorship of
several children over eight years ago and has progressed to support
projects and emergency appeals. As Plan's longest
corporate partner, Intrepid have been proactive in ensuring funds
are quickly directed to communities in need.
"Intrepid Travel has supported Plan for many years…
Our staff have expressed pride in working for a company that
gives back to local communities. The Plan Early Childhood Care
and Development program in Indonesia is one of the projects
supported by the Intrepid Foundation and has proved popular with
both our staff and travellers."
Jane Crouch,
Responsible Travel Manager, Intrepid Travel
When the Asian Tsunami struck in December 2004 Intrepid Travel CEO
Darrell Wade was quick to react. Intrepid were the first on
the phone to Plan, initiating an appeal to the Intrepid Travel
database which was issued in less than 24 hours. Intrepid
staff broke from their Christmas break to organise the appeal
and the effort was well worth it – over $200,000 was raised to help
the people in Asia devastated by this unprecedented disaster.
Intrepid travelers have continued to offer their support and dig
deep into their pockets for the people of Indonesia. In 2006
when another earthquake devastated the country, this time centred
in Yogyakarta, another appeal generated over $7,000 for emergency
relief efforts.
The generosity of their travellers is supported by the Intrepid
Foundation, who match every dollar donated. In addition to
appeals this match also applies to annual donations for the ongoing
work funded by the Intrepid Foundation. Plan’s Indonesia
early childhood care and development program receives annual
funding from the Foundation.

Australians
have also been lucky to benefit from Intrepid's support of Plan
with eligibility to enter a number of fantastic competitions with
trips across the globe donated by Intrepid.
In 2003, Intrepid generously donated a 15 day Safari to Africa and
in 2004 a 15 day trip for 4 people to India was offered to support
Plan’s fundraising as the Charity of Choice for the annual
Bollywood Masala Film Festival. In December 2006,
Intrepid donated a 'journey of love' - a 15 day trip for 2
to Rajasthan India to support Plan's KENZOAMOUR 'Gift of
Love' promotion.
