Accor’s global commitment to children
Accor hotels around Australia have joined forces to help children around the world. Accor recognises that there are too many children living in poverty, unable to realize their dreams.
Accor's plan to help end child poverty is to encourage as many staff, clients and suppliers as possible to sponsor a child with Plan. All Accor hotels across the Sofitel, Grand Mecure, Novotel, Ibis and Formule 1 brands have been invited to sponsor a child and staff have the opportunity to participate in the Accor workplace giving program.
The future of our world is very dependent upon nurturing of children across the globe, and that’s what Plan does so well. Accor is a global organisation with hotels in 90 countries, many of which still require considerable assistance in providing education, food, health support, water and a safe environment. With Plan we hope our support can make a difference.

Over 70 children are sponsored by the Accor networks and as a further extension of their corporate commitment, instead of purchasing Christmas gifts, Accor donates money to support Plan projects around the world. In 2006 Accor supported children in the rural China province of Shaanxi, helping to provide learning kits for children, parenting education materials and quality teacher training. In 2007 support has been directed towards children in the Indian states of Orissa, Rajasthan and the Delhi slums so that 0-6 year olds have access to early childhood care and development opportunities.
In addition to financial support, Accor provide Plan with
in-kind accommodation discounts and support. This was especially
beneficial during the 2006 civil unrest in East Timor.
Novotel Darwin provided space for Plan to set up a temporary base
for facilitation of emergency support for thousands of displaced
East Timorese people. Access to these facilities
enabled Plan to quickly transfer emergency relief including food
and water supplies, tarpaulins and medical kits which were
unavailable to the people of Dili.
2008 will be the third year of the partnership which was launched during the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games. Accor was an official provider to the Games and Plan the Goodwill Partner so it seemed timely to extend the global relationship. For two weeks in March, Accor hotels throughout Melbourne sold ‘Children are our Commonwealth’ wristbands and promoted child sponsorship in rooms and foyers. Accor now works with Plan offices around the globe including France, Germany, Belgium, Sweden, UK, Colombia and Brazil.
