Hurricane Dean passed across the southern peninsula of Haiti from August 18 to 19, bringing heavy rains and strong winds. The storm devastated plantations and destroyed and damaged houses, but the scale of destruction was less than expected.
There has been extensive damage to Plan communities, but no loss of human life.
Plan is on the ground providing immediate assistance to children and their families. We have provided first aid kits, food and drinking water to the children and families who are living in a shelter in Jacmel.
In cooperation with a partner organization, Plan staff had already distributed medicine to hospitals and health centres in anticipation of the storm.
