Haiti: Flooding displaces families

Plan areas in north east Haiti have been hit by massive floods following torrential rain.

Plan distributes frozen drinking water to affected communities in the Porchon area of HaitiSeveral communities, including those in Ouanaminthe department where Plan works, have been affected. The flooding was reportedly caused by water overflowing from the river Massacre, on the border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

In Ouanaminthe, 190 households have been made homeless, including 109 children. More than 100 homes have been partially damaged and 28 totally destroyed in the floods. More than 400 farms have been damaged, with the loss of more than 150 livestock.

Plan communities affected

The following Plan-supported communities have been partially submerged in the floods: Gaillard, Dosmon, Robino, Plaine de Rose, Ti Massacre, Desas, Village des Oliviers, Roman Baro and Savane au Lait.

Plan is supporting emergency efforts by providing drinking water, soap and other provisions to affected families in Ouanaminthe, Ferrier and Trou du Nord. We are also performing detailed assessments on how best to help the children and families affected.
