See Plan's work in El SalvadorPlan is working at the grassroots level in El Salvador to empower communities to bring real and lasting change, so that their children have the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Plan started working in El Salvador in 1976 and currently has programs in over 392 communities which aim to address the following issues affecting children:

  • Infant mortality and morbidity
  • Limited access to quality education
  • Violence against women and children
  • Environmental, economic and social vulnerability
  • Low child participation

Plan’s programs and strategies to address these issues include:

Plan El Salvador works with the Ministry of Health, government and non-government organisations to secure attention for preventable childhood diseases and to improve nutrition.  Plan also works to improve water access and sanitation and provides information relating to reproductive health, sexuality and HIV and AIDS.

Education

Child rights, protection and participation

Plan El Salvador works with local and national networks for advocacy of policies in favour of children and against violence, as well as for risk management and supports advocacy for a national legislation to protect children.  Plan also promotes children’s participation in community organisations and trains children and adolescents on community development.
