BOLIVIA: Plan's work in 2006

Program Unit: Chiquitania Interviewing a child community leader who helped with the elaboration of the Municipal Development Plan Municipal planning is a participative process including all local actors where the municipal authorities hold a consultation process on the problems facing the municipality and fuse them into a five-year plan. The Municipal Government of Ascension de Guarayos and Plan in compliance with planning regulations has implemented a methodology that encourages the participation of groups of girls, boys, teenagers and adults in the development of the Community Development Plans and the MDP. Monitoring mothers train for qualification to the Early Stimulation project in Zudanez Program Unit: Zudanez The Students Government use teamwork in the construction of the Boarding School of Candelaria. The Candelaria Productive Boarding School Plan is developing administration skills in community education while at the same time strengthening the management team and developing the Central School Education Project (CSEP) to construct good quality schools. In partnership with Strategies for International Development (SID), Plan has implemented soil recovery projects with a strategy based on peer training methodology. The Project has made improvements to the domestic production system by developing production capacities, which has led to an increase in family income.

Basic water and sanitation programs aim to maintain healthy family and community environments by appropriate use of and access to water and sanitation facilities, and active control and prevention of diseases. Children following instructions for the treatment of Chagas disease. Chagas disease is caused by a parasite transmitted by an insect called the Vinchuca. It affects the poorest families and causes the death of many people in the productive stage of their life. Through Plan interventions boys, girls and teenagers, are made aware of the danger that the disease represents for their lives, take part in information and training sessions and workshops on how to prevent and control Chagas Disease, along with adults.
