Plan is working at the grassroots level in Zimbabwe to help communities make real and lasting change, so that their children have the opportunity to reach their full potential. Sponsor a child in Zimbabwe.
Plan began working in Zimbabwe in 1986 and currently has programs in eight districts which aim to address the following issues affecting children:
Plan’s programs and strategies to address these issues include:
Children in Zimbabwe under five years old are subject to high mortality rates and there is an increasing number of children orphaned by HIV and AIDS. Plan Zimbabwe works to improve early childhood nutrition, health worker training and supports the provision of adolescent reproductive health and motherhood services. Plan also works to reduce childhood diseases through immunisation programs, improved access to medicine, safe water and sanitation.
Plan Zimbabwe works to improve access to quality education for all children by improving infrastructure, supporting early childhood development and teacher training and providing learning resources.
Plan Zimbabwe works to reduce child vulnerability to HIV and AIDS through raising awareness of the disease, providing support for orphaned or vulnerable children and people living with HIV and AIDS, training home-based carers and assisting the establishment of counselling and medical services.
Plan’s programs focused around improving household food and income security involve agricultural and natural resources management training, facilitation of practical farming schemes and support groups and support of income-generation projects.
Plan Zimbabwe encourages understanding of child rights and child community involvement through creation of children’s committees and clubs.
