Plan phases out from Albania after 10 years

L-R: Lisen Bashkurti, PM Sali Berisha, Tom Miller and Moacyr BittencourtPlan International CEO Tom Miller has met the Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha to discuss civil society and Plan's transference of programs and projects to a local Albanian non-governmental organisation (NGO).

The Prime Minister said he was grateful for Plan's 10 years' of work with Albanian children and was interested in the new arrangement, that sees Plan help establish and then transition our operations to a local NGO.

The discussions centred on the role and make-up of the new Albanian NGO. Tom was accompanied by Moacyr Bittencourt, Plan Albania’s Country Director, and Dr Lisen Bashkurti, a diplomat and official representative of the new NGO. The new NGO, which is still to be named, is expected to confirm the basic co-operation agreement with Plan by early April 2007.
