This new project is bringing quality early childhood care and development (ECCD) services to ethnic minority children and their families in some of the poorest districts of Laos where preschools still don't exist.
Bokeo province
January 2011 - June 2014
AU$70,000

Laos is one of the least developed countries in the world, with most of the population living as subsistence farmers. Although there has been an increase in primary school enrolment rates, many children still miss out on going to school. And when it comes to education, girls - especially those from ethnic minority backgrounds - are particularly disadvantaged. Ethnic minority children, who mostly speak in local dialects, also face significant language barriers when it comes to receiving an education as Lao is the official language used in schools.
Thanks to your support, Plan is commencing a new three-year ECCD project in the country’s north-west to improve early childhood care and development for ethnic minority children in Bokeo province.

$50 |
can help support one playgroup for 0-3 year-olds in ethnic minority communities so that young children can learn through play in their mother tongue |
$100 |
can help provide low cost, locally made play and learning materials for one ECCD centre in an ethnic community in rural Laos |
$240 |
can support one parenting group to meet regularly, share information and learn new skills to support child development, health, and learning |

This project is also supported with funding from AusAID – the Australian Government Agency for International Development. If Plan receives more than is required for the current financial year, the donations in excess will be applied to subsequent years of this project or to other Priority Projects.
