Plan Australia's Rebuilding Education in Aceh appeal is funding the reconstruction of 7 schools, including 2 primary schools, 3 kindergartens, a senior elementary school, and a pre-school centre.

As at February 2007, construction is now complete on six of the 7 schools with a senior elementary school is in the process of being constructed (planned completion date, September 2007). Handover ceremonies and school openings have been organised by communities and the local authorities, and the children are now enjoying their new school environment. All communities have been actively involved in the process of reconstruction, and there is a strong sense of community participation and ownership.
