The situation

Going to school in Bangladesh can be a frightening experience. Teaching is by rote learning and children may be beaten for simply asking a question or making a mistake. Children from impoverished rural communities are usually first-generation learners and struggle to keep up.

Primary school drop-out rates are high and although preschool education is important for preparing children for primary school, just 23% of children receive any early childhood education.

With your support, Plan is working to help rural and semi-rural Bangladeshi children get a better start to life through access to quality education.

Your support can:

  • Provide early learning spaces for young children, and tuition at out-of-school sessions and Learning Camps for older children
  • Assist children starting primary school through transition camps
  • Provide training activities for schools including positive discipline and school management
  • Create supportive, inclusive, child-friendly schools and promote punishment-free environments by working with School Committees, principals and district and provincial education authorities
  • Promote a child's fundamental right to education, highlighting the importance of education for both girls and boys
  • Provide employment opportunities for women as preschool teachers and teachers' aides

Your donation makes a big difference
