Appeal Overview

The first eight years of a child's life are crucial in terms of their intellectual, physical, emotional and social growth. It is during these years that the critical building blocks in a child’s overall development are put into place.

But so many children around the world do not receive the sort of care and early learning they need.  This may be because of discrimination against their caste or gender, lack of supervision whilst their parents work away from home, or because they do not have access to existing early childhood care services within their community. 

Plan works in countries like India, Indonesia and China, where so many people live in poverty, and the rights of children are still far from being realized.  We help to raise awareness of the importance of early childhood care and learning, and to ensure that the children we work with have access to the care and stimulation they need in their early years.

Help us equip crèches at construction sites in Delhi with learning materials and toys*

We work with partner organisations, including Mobile Crèches in Delhi, India. The crèches are located on or near factories and construction sites and are for children whose parents work long hours away from home.  These children would otherwise be left unsupervised, to play in dirty and dangerous conditions because there is no-one else to care for them. 

These crèches fill a huge early childhood care gap by providing food, health checks and early education for hundreds of children a year.

Help us conduct community awareness campaigns on ECCD in Indonesia*

The participation of everyone within a community is needed in order to nurture brighter, healthier, happier children.

In countries like Indonesia, Plan works with parents and caregivers to educate them about the importance of physical, intellectual and social growth of children during their early years. We also conduct training in areas such as child rights, participatory learning and nutrition.

Help us support early childhood care centres run by parents and trained caregivers*

Plan’s ECCD programs work to support and improve government-run early childhood care centres, as well as establishing new ECCD services in areas of need.  These can be either centre or home based.

Access to ECCD services is important to children’s development and increases their lifelong opportunities for good health, educational success and social adjustment.

# For every dollar you contribute to Plan’s priority projects, AusAID gives up to $3 more as part of the AusAID NGO Cooperation Program.  If Plan receives more than the multiplying match for the current year, the donations in excess will be applied to subsequent years of these programs or other Plan programs around the world, which may not achieve the same multiplying effect.  The China Earthquake rehabilitation program is not currently eligible for matching gifts through AusAID, relying entirely on public donations.  AusAID is the Australian Government Agency for International Development.
