Plan has launched GirlsFund to support projects that fight gender inequality, and to champion girl's rights, amongst other things. We simply must address gender discrimination as a priority if we want to tackle the root causes of poverty.
Donate now to help girls break the cycle of poverty.
Girls have a tough time in the developing world. Whether she’s born in Vietnam or Afghanistan, Zambia or Uganda, a girl’s life is often marred with neglect, disadvantage, and exploitation.
In many countries, girl babies are aborted or simply go 'missing'. The majority of African babies who die before their first birthday will be girls, who are five times more impacted by infant mortality than boys.
Girl children are given less basic nutrition than their brothers, and are less likely to be educated than boys, Teenage girls face early marriage, genital cutting, and are more vulnerable to HIV/AIDS.
YOUR GIFT CAN HELP:
Promote equal rights to education for girls in Bangladesh
|
In rural Bangladesh there is a strong preference for educating boys over girls. Early marriage is also an issue that faces girls. To help reduce this inequality, we run parenting education sessions on child rights in Bangladesh. These include discussions around early marriage and the importance of education for both girls and boys. |

Help orphaned girls access their inheritance in Uganda
|
In Uganda, women, children, and people living with HIV have suffered from inheritance rights abuse. Land and other property is often taken from them by relatives of their deceased husbands or fathers, and girls are rarely appointed as heirs to their fathers' estate. We have been raising knowledge of human rights and Ugandan law among communities to ensure both men and women write wills, so girls can rightfully access their inheritance. |
