10 Rules of Child Protection

  1. Keeping children safe is a state of mind – think ‘protection’

  2. In any situation, the protection of children is the most important thing

  3. Treat children at all times with dignity, respect and concern for their rights

  4. Give children a voice – listening to children will help keep them safe

  5. CP is everybody’s business – we all have responsibilities for protecting children

  6. Learn about the problem of abuse and the risks to children

  7. Manage risk – think about how children could be harmed and address this

  8. Be alert! Be sensitive to children and signs that may indicate abuse

  9. ‘Think the unthinkable’ – children are usually abused by people they know and trust

  10. If you have reason to believe a child is at risk, or is being abused, report it!
