Jamie's Journey with the Children of India to rescreen on Seven

15-June-2009

Jamie's Journey with the Children of India - to screen nationally on Seven Network on Sunday 21 June

Jamie’s Journey with the Children of India will rescreen nationally at 11am on Channel 7 on Sunday, June 21.

Buy a copy on DVD for $20. Proceeds go to Plan's Early Childhood Care and Development program in India - as featured in the TV special.

From the slums of Delhi to the desert communities of Rajasthan, Jamie Durie discovers how the poorest children of India, from toddlers to teenagers, are waking up to a brighter future.

In October 2008, Jamie Durie joined Plan International on a tour of India in which he discovered the harsh reality of children living in poverty, along with stories of amazing hope and resilience.

"I expected to be overwhelmed by the poverty and despair that so many of us have experienced on our travels. But what I found turned out to be a very different story…and took me on one of the most positive, hopeful journeys I’ve ever been on."

Although he is more widely known as a landscape designer and television personality, Durie has also been a major ambassador for Plan International in Australia for more than eight years.

Jamie’s Journey With the Children of India follows Durie as he visits Plan’s early childhood care and development projects in Delhi’s precarious construction sites, learns about children in the Delhi slums campaigning for change through youth media clubs, and meets with women fighting for their rights and trying to stop the practice of child marriage in desert villages in Rajasthan. Along the way Durie discovers both hardship and hope.

“I saw first hand what could be achieved when you empower communities, like Plan does,” says Durie.

The television special, which was first screened on 23 May on Channel Seven, is an inspiring journey and shows how Australians who support Plan are helping a whole new generation of India’s children realise their potential.
