Food for the Future: Join Christine Manfield in Zimbabwe this Sunday

Join celebrated Australian chef Christine Manfield on an emotional journey to Zimbabwe, where she meets children affected by the current food crisis and learns about their hopes for the future.

In late 2010 renowned Australian chef and restaurateur Christine Manfield travelled to Zimbabwe with Plan International Australia as part of our From Cup to Crop campaign to learn how children and families are coping with the food crisis.

The documentary of her journey, Food for the Future: Christine Manfield in Zimbabwe will screen on Network Ten nationally at 2pm on Sunday, July 17. Over a week she helped to distribute emergency food relief, learned about Plan’s work to help families and communities become self-sufficient again and listened as people shared their hopes for the future.

Zimbabwe was once known as the bread-basket of Africa, but years of political instability and drought have resulted in up to half of the population experiencing food shortages.

"Often people don't understand the need to feed people in other countries because we are so fortunate," reflects Christine.

"Australia has a culture of supporting those in need, such as the homeless or people affected by natural disasters. We tend to worry less about what's happening in places like Africa, where the problems have existed for a long time, because we just can’t see it.

"Coming to Zimbabwe made me rethink this. I've been able to see Plan's work in action and see the wisdom of feeding people now, so they can feed themselves in the future."
