Minister for the Arts, Mary Delahunty will be joined by Clint Bizzell from the Melbourne Football Club and members of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra for a PHOTO CALL on THURSDAY 10 FEBRUARY at 2.30pm in the foyer of the Regent Theatre to raise awareness for the Tsunami Appeal.
"Since the tragic events of Boxing Day Victoria's artists and arts community have taken a lead with their generosity and creativity to raise funds for those most in need. Together we are raising money for the orphans of the tsunami", said Mary Delahunty MP, Minister for the Arts.
Minister for the Arts, Mary Delahunty and Melbourne Symphony Orchestra's Managing Director Trevor Green will be available for comment after the photo call.
Plan Australia - a child centred community development organisation - has been collecting donations for the Plan REBULDING ASIA Tsunami Appeal at the recent Sidney Myer Free Concerts performed by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl.
Saturday 12 February will be the last concert in this year's Sidney Myer Free Concerts. MSO's Managing Director Trevor Green said "Concert goers can make a donation to Plan via authorised Plan collectors that will be circulating in the audience before the concert performance and during interval. From these concerts we're looking towards a future, ongoing relationship with Plan."
Ian Wishart, Plan Australia National Executive Director said Plan hopes to raise $50,000 from the generosity of audiences. "Funds donated to Plan's Rebuilding Asia Appeal will go to assisting with the tsunami relief effort - both in the immediate response and long-term rehabilitation and reconstruction work in Sri Lanka in Hambantota and possibly other districts. And in Indonesia and India, Plan has prepared long-term disaster response programs to assist children and communities in tsunami-devastated regions."
To make a donation to the Plan Australia REBUILDING ASIA Tsunami Appeal, visit Plan's website www.plan.org.au, call 1800 038 100 or SMS your name and donation amount to 0429 11 31 31.
