Plan responds to landslide in The Philippines

International child centred development organisation, Plan, has responded quickly to the series of landslides in Southern Leyte province of The Philippines.

Friday’s landslide in the village of Ginsaugon, which is reported to have buried up to 2000 men, women and children, is the second to hit Southern Leyte in five days.

The first massive landslides struck 25 Plan-supported villages in Liloan and San Francisco towns on February 12 causing more than 6,000 people to evacuate their homes, including 586 Plan-sponsored families who are now among those staying in evacuation centres.

Plan Philippines has responded by working with national and local governments to assist in the immediate relief efforts and has a team on the ground in the region to assess the emergency and ongoing needs of those affected.

Plan Philippines is appealing for funds to assist basic needs and to address future rehabilitation efforts with damaged livelihood and infrastructure.
