12 July 2010 marks the six month anniversary of the devastating earthquake that killed up to 300,000 people and destroyed much of the Haitian capital. Plan has been in Haiti for more than 30 years and works with around 42,000 sponsored children. So we were very well placed to understand people's needs there.
Once the earthquake struck, Plan focused initially on direct assistance of relief goods, and then built up programmes to protect children, to get the education system started again, get children back into school, health and support livelihoods so that their parents could have money to get what they need.
