What would you expect to see if you gave street children living in
one of the poorest countries in the world a camera to document
their lives?
There are huge risks to children living on the street. They have
unstable childhoods, face physical and sexual abuse by adults,
harassment by law enforcement agencies and have no access to
education or health care facilities.
Plan’s 'Through Our Own Eyes' project trained groups of
street children in Dhaka, Bangladesh, in simple photography and
video techniques to help them raise awareness of the realities they
face. Their pictures now form a powerful exhibition that was
launched in March this year.
The project helped the children to realise their potential and
build their confidence.
