People salvaging their belongings from the floods in Burkina Faso
Plan teams are on the ground providing vital aid and support to thousands of children and their families struggling to cope with floods across several African countries – including Burkina Faso, Guinea Bissau and Sudan.
Burkina Faso has been hardest hit with more than 87,000 people affected and 15 dead. Plan's Sanmatenga and Namentenga program areas in the central northern regions of the country have been severely affected, and four communities in Namentenga remain inaccessible.
Working with local authorities and partners, Plan is providing people with food, medical care, mobile latrines as well as education on hygiene.
In the coming weeks Plan will ensure that damaged schools are rehabilitated and provide psychological support to those most affected.

Sudan
In Sudan, Plan is supporting communities with emergency medical supplies and defence against disease carrying insects after heavy rain and flooding killed 16 people and injured many more.
In Kassala state, a Plan house spraying campaign has taken place in 3630 houses to control flies and mosquitoes, with 600 mosquito nets handed out to pregnant women and those with young children. Emergency medication has been distributed to vulnerable communities.
Plan is also supplying 20 communities in the Red Sea state with food, and coordinating with other non-governmental organisations to support affected Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.

Guinea-Bissau
More than 400 families have lost their homes after violent storms hit Guinea Bissau in recent weeks. Health centres and schools have been severely damaged.
Plan is providing food to the most severely hit families and reinforcing its cholera prevention activities in the area.
