Roslyn and the nine girls were then taken to a Plan-supported halfway house in Port Matnog, where they were provided with food, shelter and counselling before being returned to their families. Roselyn told Plan she had no idea what .being a model. entailed, and knew only that the cost of her travel to Japan would be deducted from her wages when she started work.
Plan's halfway house provided another line of defence against the people and organisations who exploit the very young and underage for profit. In the Philippines, Plan not only works to protect the rights of children like Roselyn, but also ensures children are aware of their rights.
In 1999, Plan organised and launched a radio program called 'Bidang Bulilit' (Children are Stars). A group of 23 children from San Jose ranging in ages from 10 to 15 years old were chosen to produce a radio show. They received training in basic broadcasting and news writing. The outcome was a live, one-hour radio program focusing on the promotion of children's rights, issues and concerns. Since then the program has aired weekly.
In 2004 and its fourth year of operation, the show includes segments that promote child participation and child-to-child information sharing. Some of the segments include Balitang Bulilit (Children.s News) contains news and updates; Pakinggan Natin Sila (Let Us Listen to Them) showcases interviews with notable guests; Sikat Ka Bata (You Are a Star) features a child role model of the week; and Punto de Bata (Children's Point of View) is a discussion of local and national issues that affect children.
Children.s camps and congresses are also held in most Plan program regions in the Philippines. These events, no only promote socialisation among local children, but provide a venue for discussions on children's issues and concerns. So far, Plan has assisted children in organising nearly 500 of these events attended by 47,000 children.
On a more day-to-day basis, Plan runs community campaigns on the Rights of the Child, which help families and communities understand and appreciate the importance of child rights and child participation in the continued development and governance of their community.
Plan's child rights participation and protection programs are funded by donations and child sponsorships.

For just over $1 a day you can make a lasting difference to your sponsored child and their whole community.

Your regular donation could help support HIV/AIDS orphans, provide education to children in slums or protect vulnerable children from trafficking and abuse.
