One of the most exciting lead up events to the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games is the Queen’s Baton Relay, currently circulating Australia. As presenting partner, Telstra is supporting the nationwide baton relay at sites along its route to Melbourne and help bring the excitement of the Games to all Australians across metropolitan, regional and rural areas.
As a Goodwill Partner of Plan shares a commitment to raising awareness for the needs of the children in our Commonwealth and Telstra has generously provided Plan with space at various baton welcome ceremonies to join them on the Queen’s Baton Relay. The presence of Plan at these welcome ceremonies will ensure we can spread our message of Goodwill even further a field, into metropolitan, regional and rural areas of Australia and through many communities who will in turn support our Goodwill cause.
One initiative that Plan and Telstra have partnered for is the Queen’s Baton Relay gold coin donation photo opportunity with Telstra ambassador Grant Hackett at sites along route where Plan will be joining Telstra. For a small gold coin donation, communities around Australia will have the opportunity to have their picture taken with a life size cut out of swimming superstar Grant Hackett. The money raised from the gold coin donation will go towards the four priority projects in Commonwealth countries that our Goodwill Partnership is raising awareness for. The projects which will benefit from Telstra’s generosity are in Africa with a HIV/Aids project, India Early Childhood care and Development, Bangladesh Community learning program and Fiji’s HIV/Aids Youth Education program,
Telstra’s generosity and support by being a Goodwill Partner with Plan for the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games shows true spirit and willingness by helping Plan help the children in our Commonwealth reach their full potential. Telstra is leading the way for corporate Australia to support initiatives and partnerships that will improve the lives of children and their communities all over the world.
