A map of Plan's program areas in Cambodia
In total, 138 sponsor families in Plan's working areas have been affected by flash floods in the aftermath of the recent active monsoon trough. In Angkor Thom district, 16 sponsor families have been affected and another 122 families (consisting of 548 people) in Srei Snam district of the same Siem Reap province need assistance.
Of the sponsor families affected, three children and their families sponsored by Australians were affected. Their houses fell down but no one was injured. The children and their families are staying with relatives, and they have received assistance in the form of emergency kits from Plan Cambodia and Cambodia Red Cross. We have contacted the sponsors whose sponsored children have been affected.
The roads leading to the flooded areas of the two districts are partly destroyed, causing some communication difficulty.
Some of Save the Children Australia's and Concern Worldwide's emergency relief efforts are assisting victim families in Plan's working area in the Angkor Thom district, although the relief is not fully sufficient. The Cambodia Red Cross is also responding with assistance but not in Plan-supported areas.
With an estimated cost of about USD$12,251 Plan Cambodia will be supporting the total 138 sponsor families who have been affected in our two target districts with food aid (rice, frying oil, canned fish, instant noodle, soybean, and salt),and water filter and housing materials (for those families whose houses have been completely destroyed).
