Plan has launched the Tsunami: 5 Years After website to showcase our tsunami recovery work in India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
The Indian Ocean tsunami of December 26, 2004 was one of the deadliest natural disasters in recorded history. Donors entrusted Plan with a total of US$49.1 million to help those affected to recover and to rebuild their communities. This includes over AU$2 million from Australian individuals and organisations.
Across four countries in Asia, Plan supported more than 1 million tsunami survivors through immediate relief and long-term recovery projects.
Since the tsunami, Plan has worked with children and their families to rebuild lives, communities and futures. We have empowered children to take active roles in their own recovery.
Today, Plan has launched the Tsunami: 5 Years After website to showcase the successes and challenges children and their families have faced as they rebuilt their lives. This website is a central resource where donors, supporters and the public can access success stories, images, videos, facts/figures, and financial information showcasing our tsunami recovery work in India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

We encourage you to explore the long-term, sustainable change that Plan has supported in tsunami-affected communities and to marvel at the resiliency and strength of the children we have worked with. Plan’s tsunami response and funding will come to an end next month, but the impacts of our work will go well beyond.
