In October adventure cyclist Kate Leeming will be set off on Breaking the Cycle, an unprecedented bicycle journey that will take her on a 24,000km, 10-month bicycle ride across the breadth of Africa from Senegal in the west to the Horn of Africa in the East.
Kate’s motivation for undertaking this mammoth feat is a passion to raise awareness of the causes and consequences of extreme poverty, and how people can participate in breaking the ongoing poverty cycle.
Plan in Australia is working with Kate as her lead NGO partner, and during her ride she will visit Plan-supported communities throughout Africa to both learn about and raise awareness of Plan’s work.
On Monday, July 13, Kate is holding a fund-raising evening at BMW Edge in Federation Square, Melbourne, featuring high-profile speaker Robert Swan, OBE. Robert is the first person to have walked to both the north and south poles and is one of the world’s leading motivational speakers. He has also been a mentor to Kate for more than 10 years.
