Federal Budget: Overview of Australia's 2005/06 Aid Program

Below is a summary budget overview of Australia's international aid program for 2005/06.

Overview:

  • A substantial commitment to the Australia-Indonesia Partnership for Reconstruction and Development ($1 billion over four years)
  • A 17% increase for the Solomon Islands to $246 million[1]
  • An 8% increase for PNG to $492 million
  • A regional Pacific program of $94 million, an increase of 29%, including an $11 million
  • Fragile States initiative for Melanesia
  • An increased contribution ($34 million over three years) to the World Bank.s Heavily Indebted Poor Countries Initiative
  • An increase of $24 million in humanitarian and emergency programs
