Everyday 4000 children die from preventable diseases caused by poor sanitation, inadequate hygiene and unclean water. This is entirely avoidable. Join us in a 'Call to Action' to the Australian Government for 'Sanitation, Hygiene and Water for All'.
We are calling upon the new federal government to prioritise Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in its aid program and we need your help. There is a global crisis in sanitation and water - 2.6 billion people do not have access to sanitation and 884 million people do not have access to safe water . We are joining forces with 15 other aid organisations and academic institutions to collectively lobby the new parliamentarians to help us end this water crisis.
Can you help by contacting your local Member of Parliament to show your support for this ‘Call to Action’?
Read on to find out why we are doing this and what you need to do to help.
The human cost of this crisis is staggering and it hits children and women hardest. Each year this results in over 1.4 million child deaths from diarrhoea. This is entirely avoidable. International aid funding for WASH has been low for decades and must be raised on the list of priorities. We know the solutions and they are affordable. When communities practice good hygiene behaviours, use toilets and have access to safe water, their lives are transformed.
Your support can help bring an end to the WASH crisis. This campaign will be all the more powerful and influential if government representatives are contacted directly from members of their electorate, rather than simply through aid organisations.
