Food crisis in West Africa
Millions of children and their families in West and Central Africa face a growing humanitarian disaster as a food crisis intensifies across the region.

In Australia, children are taught about the importance of washing their hands. Sadly, 4,000 children in developing countries could die today because they don't.
Did you know that more children under five years of age die from diarrhoea than from malaria, measles and HIV/AIDS combined?
And the most frustrating thing is that these lives – around 4,000 every day – could be saved by something as simple as teaching a child how important it is to wash their hands.
DONATE NOW to help change this shocking situation – and save children's lives – by helping fund Plan's Water and Sanitation Hygiene (WASH) program.
In Uganda, for example, around a third of the population don’t have access to safe drinking water or hand washing facilities. Combined with a lack of awareness about the importance of hygiene, that’s putting the lives of millions of children at risk.
Your gift can help Plan's WASH program provide life-changing support to some of the world’s poorest communities across nine countries – including Timor Leste, Ethiopia and India.

Lillian lives in the Lira District of Uganda, where many communities don’t have even the most basic facilities. In a lot of places, people have open latrines instead of toilets with lids. And hand-washing facilities can be scarce too.
Here are just some of the things we need to accomplish in the next 12 months in Uganda:
DONATE NOW to help fund this important work

A crucial part of Plan’s WASH projects in countries such as Timor Leste, Uganda and Bangladesh is Child-to-Child training. This involves visiting schools and teaching pupils about the benefits of basic hygiene and sanitation. We then encourage them to share their learnings with other children and their parents.
With this kind of grassroots approach, we can empower children to be change-makers.
DONATE NOW to help us give children the tools they need to create lasting change.
And the good news is, every dollar you give could be matched by up to $5 by AusAID^, enabling us to help even more children have the best possible start in life.
^For every dollar you contribute to Plan’s WASH program is supported by the AusAID NGO Cooperation Program. For every dollar you contribute towards this program within the next financial year, AusAID gives up to $5 more. If Plan receives more than the multiplying match in this time, the donations in excess will go to other WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) projects that we currently work on across India, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Kenya, Timor Leste, Indonesia, Laos and Tanzania, which may not achieve the same multiplying effect. AusAID is the Australian Government Agency for International Development. If Plan receives more than required for the current financial year, the donations in excess will be applied to the subsequent years of these projects or other projects around the world.
