Make Poverty History

Plan is part of the MAKE POVERTY HISTORY campaign - a global coalition of community groups, celebrities and non-government organisations that are advocating for governments and world leaders to end world poverty and support the Millennium Development Goals, an eight-point plan for tackling poverty.

Australia, along with 191 member states of the United Nations, has promised to halve poverty by 2015. Unfortunately, to date our Government has failed to give effect to that commitment with Australian aid falling far short of what is required to achieve the Goals.

How can you help make poverty history?

1. LEARN: Visit the national MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY website to learn more about the issues.
   
   
2. SIGN: the Face Up To Poverty Petition.  By adding a digital photo of your face and postcode to an on-line petition you can call on our leaders to take action:
   
   
   • Give more and better aid
   • Ensure trade justice
   • Drop the debt
   • Fight corruption
   • Tackle climate change

3. LOBBY: Send a message to the Prime Minister, your local MP or State Senator.  You can follow the MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY letter writing guide.
   
   
4. ACT: Join the various coalition-run events and activities around the nation or host your own.
   
   
5. SPEAK OUT!: If you can't make it to an event, then order some Make Poverty History white wristbands. Wear them, share them and talk about the campaign.
