Festival Melbourne2006 was the largest free cultural festival ever held in Australia featuring twelve days of non-stop music, dance, circus, street theatre and visual arts from all the corners of the Commonwealth.
The India reporters producing a story on Artplay’s live dingo sculpture which will took full form with 6000 flowers made by kids in Alexandra Gardens. The youth reporters interview Richard Spiby of the Architects of Air – the UK based creators of Luminaria. The Luminarium was staffed by Plan Volunteers and staff including Plan’s Marketing & Events Coordinator Lucy Mickelburg. The Youth Reporters hit the Containers Village at Shed 14 Docklands where 43 young artists from the Commonwealth were exhibiting in 20 foot shipping containers as part of the Next Wave Festival.
The Youth Reporters with their "Cultural Ambassadors" - six students from Victoria who joined them during the Commonwealth Games. The reporters interview artist Michael Saal whose container, Ghetto Games is an exhibition documenting and preserving the toys and games children play in the streets of South Africa. The games have been handed down from previous generations and use found objects and waste materials like sticks, tin cans, tyres and wires. The Pakistani reporters boarded the elaborately transformed Karachi W-11 tram - a free service making daily journeys around the City Circle route during the games. Based on the decorated buses that traverse the city of Karachi, the tram is covered in brightly coloured self-adhesive stickers that have been cut out by hand and make intricate patterns.
