About this book

Plan has collaborated with The Age newspaper to produce this text because we believe that all Australians, and young people in particular, feel a genuine responsibility to learn about and respond to the issues of global poverty. It seeks to introduce students to the causes and consequences of global poverty in a fun and informative way, making particular use of web-based resources that students can use for further research. We hope that this textbook will contribute to an understanding of the concept of global citizenship and inspire teachers and students alike to see how they can be a part of the solution.

Testimonial

Pip Kelly, Geography Teacher at Northcote High School in Melbourne says:

"The Action on Global Poverty book has been a great resource for our geography classes. Students have been interested in learning about other young people similar in age to themselves from many different countries. Young people from around the world have been given a voice in the book - whether through case studies or from first hand accounts.

“Overall this is a well planned and professionally produced resource that has been invaluable in our Year 9 Geography unit focusing on Global Poverty and addressing our essential question of ‘What does it take to change the world?"
